Responsibilities:
Performs all basic nursing care procedures including the care of acutely ill patients and monitoring the ongoing health status of patients.
(-/+)Completes nursing assessments and formulates nursing care plans.
Administers and/or directs unit staff to administer nursing care in response to patients' physical and mental abilities.
(-/+)Completes and updates Nursing Care Plans on all patients.
Leads and contributes to Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan in Acute Psychiatric Unit.
(-/+)Assists physician as needed.
(-/+)Writes progress notes and other documentation as required.
(-/+)Conducts individual counseling with patients and documents.
(-/+)Conducts Health Teaching groups or seminars with patients.
(-/+)Performs nursing functions necessary for smooth operation of the patient unit:
Transcribes physician orders; completes appropriate forms.
(-/+)Administers medications; orders patient medications from pharmacy per procedure and performs medication teaching and documents.
(-/+)Maintains census.
(-/+)Processes unit admissions and discharges.
(-/+)Completes all paperwork and updates the 24-hour report.
(-/+)Supervises urine collection as needed.
(-/+)On 11-7 shift, does medication checks, prepares patients for lab, performs glucometer controls and completes discharge summaries.
(-/+)Reports pertinent data to staff on next shift (written, taped, verbal).
(-/+)Serves on various committees as assigned.
(-/+)Attends Nursing meetings.
(-/+)Observes and records patient behaviors and reports pertinent information to proper personnel and documents.
(-/+)7-3/3-11 Shift:
Completes progress note documentation on every patient, weekends and holidays, (weekdays when there is no therapist, group or doctor's note).
(-/+)Activates fire and disaster drill procedures as indicated.
(-/+)Reports faulty equipment to proper personnel; ensures removal from patient areas.
(-/+)Attends unit and community meetings whenever possible.
(-/+)Supervises the Nursing Assistant / Mental Health Tech on the unit and gives patient and unit assignments as indicated.
(-/+)7-3 Shift orders supplies, with input from 3-11/11-7 shift staff.
One form per unit, each week, is submitted.
(-/+)May delegate to NA / MHT as needed with unit nurse approval.
Responds to patient and institutional emergencies as indicated.
(-/+)Requirements:
1
year of experience as an RN requiredIV PICC Line experience preferredGraduate of accredited school of nursing.
Wound care experience preferredANCC Psychiatric Mental Health and/or Addiction Nursing (evaluated individually).
Current State License RNCurrent certification in CPR/BLSA minimum of two years experience in a psychiatric setting and/or drug/alcohol facility (evaluated individually)Ability to communicate well, both orally and written; leadership skills; ability to organize and facilitate patient care in any inpatient unit within the Hospital; training in group dynamics and group therapy, physical and psychological assessment skills (evaluated individually); ability to work within a team structureSome weekend availability requiredPhysical Requirements:
Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
(only in assisted lifts).
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Extensive walking and standing while performing duties required; ability to push med cart, wheelchair to transport patients on campus; ability to climb at least three flights of stairs; good oral and written communication skills.
Work Conditions:
Staff various units and shifts as needed.
Weekend and holiday duty per Nursing policy.
Exposure to infectious diseases.
Required to intervene in psychiatric emergencies.
